Advocacy

Our board and members participate in initiatives targeting social, environmental and economic challenges and opportunities at the local, county, state and federal level. Some examples include:

The Big Sur Community leverages its long history of civic engagement to embrace and steward multi-stakeholder solutions to community challenges. CABS provides a platform to help move community initiatives forward. Examples include:

  • Innovating solutions for traffic and safety issues, e.g. the Sycamore Canyon Shuttle Project
  • Initiating, fundraising for and facilitating the Big Sur Destination Stewardship Project
  • Designing and promoting the Big Sur Pledge
  • Researching options and driving solutions for Community Housing and Visitor-Serving Infrastructure
  • Organizing member dinners to obtain diverse inputs to the CABS project agenda

CABS serves as an emergency management liaison between government agencies, donors, and the local community. Our goal is to enable our community to recover as quickly as possible following flood, fire and road closures.

  • Shared Road Repair Grants
  • Water and Septic Repair Grants
  • Linking Community to Outside Recovery Resources
